Housing Pedro Costa
Located in a small village in Trás-os-Montes, this residential project is intended as a vacation home and possible weekend retreat.
“Good architecture is nothing more than a project that meets the client's needs boldly, according to the region in which it is located - through environmental comfort, using new materials and techniques, aiming for the least impact on nature.”
Gustavo Penna
The concept...
The concept behind the project is based on the silhouette of the traditional house. By reinterpreting it with new materials, the formal purism of the proposal is enhanced.
Functionally, the program is divided into two volumes, with the leisure area facing the pool to the south and the other to the east, where the bedrooms are located.
To the south, on the front of the house, pedestrian and automobile access is established. Sparsely displayed on the elevation, they make a brief apology for the old granaries, using natural materials such as wood and stone.
The walls, which articulate different circulation dynamics, are not left to chance. A schist foundation is designed, and another, higher one, in masonry, communicating different scales.
The open space concept is proposed internally. In the common areas, the perception and spatial perfusion between the living room and kitchen is increased. As a result, the common sphere of the house is revealed to the outside area through pointed openings where we come across the swimming pool which, in turn, opens onto the rest of the land.
Those who observe nature and contemplate its beauty become architects of its features, celebrating life and its greatness.
Each opening becomes a frame, a living picture, changing over time. Nature prevails in this context. In the project, we favored the telluric relationship between artifice and nature.
