Single-family house project - Vila Nova de Gaia
In architecture, the design of single-family homes presents major questions and various dynamics. Balance is the watchword. Reconciling different family spheres, from the most intimate to the most common, from the public to the private, privacy filters are established, providing different experiences for different types of people.
The project is conditioned by the strong formal heterogeneity present in the existing context. The aim of the project was to establish a new dialog between the pre-existing and the new living needs.
With a defined periphery, all the interior spaces are to be redesigned. As a result, the interior is to be completely demolished, giving the space a new dynamic.
Architecture is the will of an era translated into space.
Mies Van der Rohe
Its body, predominantly horizontal, takes over the periphery of the existing. Architecture doesn't just build. It raises dreams and sustains memories. The principle of memory is particularly important. The new home, starting from the existing one, must be in line with the various buildings, the fruit of a specific time, with their memories and values for those who live there.
The dwelling...
Functionally, the house opens its common and private spaces to the outside, favoring the entry of light and increasing the perfusion of the interior to the exterior.
The living room, facing the front façade of the existing house, takes on the windows and rhythms of yesteryear.
The rooms have a private patio, with an intimate scale, ensuring ventilation and fenestration.
In the interior sphere, we are invited to design fixed furniture as well as some decorative pieces. Kitchens, closets, living rooms and bathrooms are also studied.
“The architect who really designs for human beings needs to know much more than just Vitruvius' five canons” Richard Neutra
Each project is properly monitored and processed before the licensing authorities.
