Thinking with wood... “The hut”
Concept
Building with wood, integrating with nature. These were the assumptions launched by the client, the owner of an estate in the Alentejo.
Between artifice and nature, to build with wood is to assimilate nature itself. We want this dialog to be peaceful, favoring continuity and consonance with the surrounding context.
Based on respect for the existing soil, with its inherent morphological and vegetational characteristics, the recommended solution could not be intrusive.
On the contrary, ways should be devised to provide autonomy for the main infrastructures such as water, electricity and sanitation.
To this end, rainwater storage tanks, solar panels and devices for renovating and reusing unused organic materials were designed.
Conceptually, the hut rises from the ground, respecting the values of the pre-existence. In this way, the capillarity and flooding caused by the rise in the riverbed are safeguarded.
The structure's own weight will be distributed over several pillars which, in turn, connect to perimeter beams, which are locked together, so that the own weight is distributed as evenly as possible over the terrain.
The model nature of the structure gives the project a number of specific features.
An independent, removable structure that is easy to apply and adapt to the terrain has been designed. The estimated construction time would be approximately 3 weeks on site and one month on site.
This is followed by intensive research into possible construction processes and materials to be used in line with the investment available.
Natural materials, such as treated wood, were chosen as the raw material for the interior and exterior cladding.
This typology, designed for residential tourism, will be used in all seasons of the year, and it is pertinent to include means of heat recovery and maintenance. Both the periphery and the ground are thermally insulated.
