A space, a concept, an architectural project for a dental clinic in the Algarve

The architectural project for the Vitra Clinic in Lagoa, Algarve, reflects the need to reinterpret the traditional concept of a dental clinic.

With glass fronts facing a busy urban street, the property is bordered by the periphery of a residential building. In this sense, the location challenges us to study and enhance natural lighting as one of the central elements.

In this way, the identification of the problem, combined with the high temperatures so typical of this region, theorize the conceptual basis of the project for this new clinic. The shadow element becomes an essential character in this project, being provided through orientable wooden panels that allow for gradation. In the same way, these panels also provide oscillation between symmetrical and asymmetrical rhythms, communicating a distinctive identity to the exterior.

As a result, light, taken on as the main element in the interior of this new space, defines form and matter by accentuating colors and textures. In order to introduce organicity, dynamics and lighting to the project, circular sculptural elements were designed. At the same time as providing lighting, they add ambience and atmosphere to the project for the new dental clinic.

Wood, braided vinyl, wallpaper and lacquered panels are part of the chosen grammar. The textures, selected in an integrated and harmonious way, make the project more human.

Signage and interior furnishings are also the subject of our design and reflection. Communicating a coherent corporate identity, the project for this new dental clinic ensures compliance with all current legal regulations, thus guaranteeing its high level of asepsis.

The corridor leading to the clinical areas combines different materials. Wooden slats, glass walls and lacquered panels enhance the diaphanousness, rhythm and dynamics of this connecting space. Finally, when combined, they suggest movement and diffuse images, guaranteeing the privacy required for a clinical space.

Offices

An antechamber area precedes each of the consulting rooms, providing an area for preparing and accommodating the user.
Undeniably, the office area is the most technical and specific, characterized as aseptic and functional, guaranteeing compliance with all hygiene and safety standards. In order to meet these requirements, textured linoleum flooring was proposed, with no joints, but with a blended and distinctive pattern, thus allowing a further combination of asepsis and aesthetics.
The articulation of these languages is essential for a clinical project, expressing its ability to provide a personalized response to the needs of its users.
All the components of this project come together, resulting in a space that cares.
