Housing project in Gondomar - “O Habitar...” architect gondomar
Man inhabits what he builds, shaping the peripheries of the place with his own traits. Building has inhabiting as its goal.
Set on a steeply sloping promontory, the project's intention is to establish a set of relationships with the surroundings.
The topography and the built-up mass of the site dictate a circumstance. The project for a single-family home in Gondomar should configure, materialize and enhance the best that the site has to offer.
When we look at the pre-existing context of the housing project, the set of circumstances that drive us to action, we see that it is the result of a sum of structures that have grown organically as a result of necessity. In this sequence, the housing project preserves what is relevant pre-existing, eliminating the accessory. In this search, the housing project establishes itself in continuity with the land, recovering pre-existing fragments, articulating them with a minimalist language that enhances the truth that once existed.
Project context...
The project for the house arises from the combination of new construction and existing fragments, establishing a bridge between two eras, what has been written and what is yet to be written.
Faced with an extensive program, the horizontal perception of the volume is provoked. At a certain point, the volume is broken up to better suit the morphology, thus distinguishing the different living areas.
A first, common sphere is distributed horizontally, adapting and opening up to the surroundings. The living room, kitchen and office are arranged sequentially. As a negative, an interior garden is introduced. Increasing the fenestration of the spaces creates a differentiating moment that enhances the experience.
As a result, a second sphere of greater privacy. The rooms will be distributed vertically along the body of the building. At a higher level, where privacy and visual dominance is higher, the volume reveals itself over the landscape.
The garage, located at the base of the building, forms a landscaped roof concealing its presence, which is barely noticeable in the building.
